Prevent a fall:

  • Wear well fitted shoes or slippers.
  • Keep electrical cords near baseboards and away from traffic paths
  • The higher your blood pressure, the higher you risk of stroke, heart attack, or congestive heart failure
  • Have your blood pressure checked annually.
  • Cut the cholesterol and trim the fat from your diet.
  • Check for diabetes and keep it in check. Being overweight puts a strain on your heart.

Warning signs of a heart attack:

  1. Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing or pain in the center of your chest. Pain may radiate to your neck, shoulders and arms.
  2. Chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating or respiratory difficulty.

Warning signs of a stroke:

  1. Sudden loss of vision.
  2. Slurred or garbled speech.
  3. Sudden numbness and tingling in arms, legs or face.
  4. Severe headache or facial droop.

IF ONE OR ANY OF THESE SIGNS ARE PRESENT, CONTACT YOUR FAMILY AND OR DIAL 9-1-1
